Our History
In 1950, in the Eastern Townships’ Stoke region, Aurèle Théberge founded the company where he would work with his family until the age of 67.
In 2018, Salaisons Aurèle Théberge was bought by Groupe Mario Côté, a leader in the pork industry. Today, Groupe Mario Côté has more than 200 farms, thousands of acres of land, meat processing plants, flour mills, fleets of trucks and several hundred employees.
The business that Mario Côté has built has been, and always will be, a family affair in which his mother Madeleine, his wife Lucie and their eight children play an important role. Building on this empire, Groupe Mario Côté Group is determined to continue to grow, the reason behind the acquisition of the Ascot Corner processing facility and the Théberge trademark, regionally renowned for its smoked pork products.
In 2019, the Stoke processing facility was moved to Ascot Corner to further grow the business as Groupe Mario Côté’s growth strategy is based not only on volume but also on the integration of activities. The Ascot Corner processing facility is attached to the former O ’Grand R’ dance and reception hall, famous throughout the region in its day. Today, the butcher shop proudly carries this name and sells our Théberge products.
